About Us

Eastern CT Green Action (ECGA) is a network of local groups devoted to slowing climate change through actions at the local and state level. Our purpose is to create and assist new groups in Connecticut towns that will encourage their own town councils and state legislators to enact substantive measures aimed at countering climate change. We are also glad to work together with existing groups.

ECGA was formed in December 2014 by several people from towns in eastern Connecticut.  Initially most people were from Mansfield; as of January 2016, people from Andover, Ashford, Chaplin, Coventry, Eastford, Hampton, Lebanon, Pomfret, Scotland, Tolland, Willington, and Windham are members.

Since we work on the local level, we are organized by towns. Connecticut has 169 towns, a weak county system, and limited regional government.  Organizing on the town level makes sense to influence local government and state legislators.  Eastern Connecticut Green Action is divided into Windham Green Action, Mansfield Green Action, etc.  Each one of these groups has at least four to five core members that work with the town’s council or board of selectmen.
